Cars 2: Race too fast you’re gonna crash (Dual Language)

Hà, mình rất muốn viết 1 review positive về Cars 2, nhưng có vẻ như review này sẽ chỉ là 1 review nhằm giải thích cho điểm số tệ hại mà các nhà bình luận phim đã chấm cho phim này.

Mình là fan của Pixar, kể từ khi xem The Incredibles thì Pixar luôn là studios 3D Animation số 1 trong tư duy của mình, và từ đó chưa bao giờ Pixar làm mình biết thất vọng là gì. Tuy nhiên, Cars chưa bao giờ là thương hiệu mà mình thực sự cảm thấy “có hứng” cả, và rõ ràng đó cũng là cái tên duy nhất bị rottentomatoes chấm dưới 80% của Pixar từ trước tới nay (tất cả 10 phim còn lại đều có điểm số trên 90%). Vì thế ngay từ khi biết Cars 2 chuẩn bị ra mắt, mình đã không thực sự hứng thú như với những phim trước đó. Thậm chí ngay trước ngày hôm nay, mình chưa từng có ý định đi xem. Chỉ đến khi mình được thấy bộ combo bắp rang/coca quá độc giá 145k (giá vé là 90k ghế vip sáng thứ 2), thì máu merchandise nổi lên điên cuồng và phải đặt vé đi xem ngay.
Vì đã biết quá nhiều sự chê trách đối với phim này nên mình đã vào rạp với tâm lý hoàn toàn thoải mái, không kỳ vọng quá nhiều. Và mình đã nhận được đúng những gì mình chờ đợi.

No, it’s not either any of the 2 famous movies. This is exactly what I had in my mind when I went out of the cinema after watching Megamind.

I totally dig Metroman so much that I want him to have a fight with Mr. Incredible so bad. It’ll be one damn awesome fight. One represents the “Oscar” guys from Pixar, the other one fight for the guys who never get the Oscar. Right? Who else want to see a fight like this happens?

Yeah, and Megamind’s gonna enjoy this fight too. Totally.

Monkey King in Space

Well the idea is pretty simple: What happens if the Monkey King finds out there’s no Heaven above, but the Universe instead?

Like I said before, I was in a “chimp” mood, so I drew a lot of monkeys lately, and this one is one of them – the most famous monkey of them all – The Monkey King from “Journey to the West”. It’s a shame that he’s Chinese – ancestor of the guys who’s invading Vietnamese sea and islands. But oh well, art is art, politics only polute it.

Master Monkey

Master Monkey from Kungfu Panda. I really dig both the 2 movies, but I didn’t get to show my respect to one of the best franchises to date from Dream Works. Now here it is. I was in some kind of drawing chimps mood, so here it is, our Jackie Chan in the appearance of Master Monkey – Furious Five – Kungfu Panda.

I was trying to do one with Po and Tigress but guess I was too amateur for such great characters, but I’ll try again, gonna worth it.

I just re-watch the wonderful animated show Justice League/Justice League Unlimited from the great Bruce Timm and have been on a JL-hype lately. I’ve drawn a lot of JL art for my portfolio too, and even more to come. I’ve been planning on making an artbook for myself, I don’t know if you guys are interested. But I’d hold that thought.

Zatanna was one of the most beautiful and sexy superheroines ever created. And this pic gave me some little more experiences too.

Just swingin’

Just swingin’ around and be a spider, that’s all.

This supposed to be huge and has a lot of details, until I found it take too much work, since I didn’t have the enough time and effort for it. And I found the best way to complete it with less work to do, and well, it’s now just a little quicky.

This explores more on the camera angle, perspective for the background. And I think it came out pretty good.

Just Beamin’

Yeah, just a quick doodle to beam my new way of lines and styles and vice versa. This one is typical. Dang I really am too much into Iron Man that every time I start a doodle, I draw him. But not all of the the doodles came out as good as I expected.

This one, on the other hand, made me feel pretty good, and I threw some colors in to relax from the big Justice League one I’m working on.

Review: Batman – The Brave and The Bold

Đây là 1 show hoạt hình không mang tính chất nặng nề nghiêm túc như các animated show khác về Batman từ trước tới nay, mà nó mang 1 phong cách khá vui vẻ, nội dung nhiều lúc có phần hài hước khá tinh tế.

Phong cách của phim cả nội dung, art style, design nhân vật, và cả cinematography đều mang đậm chất retro (có hơi hướng cổ cổ, cũ cũ) và pay homage rất nhiều cho những thương hiệu Batman đình đám trong lịch sử: từ design nhân vật đậm chất của series live action Batman thời 1960 (Adam West thủ vai), một số cảnh đánh đấm được cô đọng lại thành các hình tĩnh theo kiểu comic giống như đoạn opening title của chính series live action nói trên, thậm chí cả âm nhạc, lời thoại, hành xử tính cách của nhân vật cũng có phần sến sến, kịch kịch đậm chất payhomage như vậy. Vừa nghiêm túc lại vừa hài hài vui vui nhẹ nhàng (ko phải dạng hài lăn ra cười, mà chỉ đủ để fanboy nhận ra punch line và cười mỉm)

Mục đích của BTBaTB cũng ko phải tập trung khai thác quá nhiều nhân vật Batman, mà dường như nó là một sự nâng tầm dành cho các nhân vật siêu anh hùng cũng như phản diện mang tính “làm nền” cho Batman, Superman từ trước tới nay như: Green Arrow, Huntress, Aquaman, Blue Beetle, Captain Marvel, Plastic Man… .

Trong thế giới của BTBaTB, suốt qua 2 season mà tớ đã xem gần như không hề xuất hiện Superman, thậm chí dường như đôi lúc còn có cảm giác nhân vật Superman không hề tồn tại trong thế giới này (thật ra là có, 1 lần Batman nhắc tới 1 người bạn ở Metropolis, 1 lần khác Superman chỉ hiện ra cái lưng). Tóm lại là Superman và khá nhiều các nhân vật quan trọng khác trong Justice League như Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) trong series này đều là nhân vật phụ, gần như không xuất hiện và cũng chẳng đóng vai trò gì trong các câu chuyện. Trong thế giới đó, Batman là siêu sao của tất cả mọi người. Tội phạm ở khắp nơi trên đất Mỹ đều nghe danh và khiếp sợ Batman, ko chỉ mỗi Gotham, các anh hùng và villain nữ đều mê mẩn và tìm cách cưa cẩm Batman, các nhân vật tuổi teen như Blue Beetle hay Captain Marvel đều hướng tới Batman như hình mẫu anh hùng chuẩn mực để học hỏi theo, các anh hùng khác và villain nể phục Batman. Tóm lại là Batman đóng hết tất cả mọi vai mà mọi khi thuộc về Superman – một hình mẫu anh hùng lý tưởng cho cả thế giới.

Vì đã qua 2 season mà mới chỉ được thấy cái lưng Superman có 1 lần trong mấy giây, nên tớ cho là series đã cố tình dìm hàng Superman. Thậm chí có cả những tập mà Batman rơi vào 1 chiều không gian song song, nơi Batman có sức mạnh y như Superman và đối đầu với Rohtul (viết ngược lại mọi người sẽ hiểu). Các story arc nổi tiếng trong truyện cũng được khai thác rất nhiều để đưa vào show này. Ngặt một nỗi, các story arc đó đều có Justice League, mà JL thì ko thể ko có Superman, và khi được thấy đạo diễn đã tài tình thế nào khi xử lý câu chuyện vẫn theo như trong comic mà vẫn khéo léo loại bỏ được vai trò của Superman. Ví như cuộc xâm lăng của Starro, Crisis on 2 Earths, đều ko có Superman. Cái này phải là fanboy mới thấy thú vị vô cùng, và cũng buồn cười vô cùng. Vì nó vừa khéo léo, mà lại tỏ ra rất “cố tình” trong việc dùng Batman thay thế vai trò của Superman.

Như đã nói về phong cách Retro của phim, hành động trong phim này là một trong số những điểm sáng mà các series trước đây về Batman chưa làm được (ko tính series rẻ tiền vẽ xấu như điên The Batman nhé). Những pha hành động có kèm âm nhạc phong cách retro (dồn dập nhưng the thé nghe rất ngu mà vẫn hay) vừa nhanh và dứt khoát như phong cách hoạt hình hiện đại, nhưng vẫn lồng ghép khéo léo những pha dừng hình đậm chất comic classic cực kỳ thú vị và ấn tượng.

Lời thoại, tính cách và hành xử của các nhân vật trong phim cũng không mang tính thực tế nhiều như Justice League nữa mà cố tình làm sến sến, chuối chuối đúng theo kiểu classic, để tăng cảm giác iconic của các pha xuất hiện của Batman, các pha chiến đấu hành động, cũng như các lời thoại. Kiểu như bọn trộm đang cướp nhà băng, Batman xuất hiện theo kiểu đứng trên nóc nhà, để cho ánh trăng chiếu vào người đổ bóng hình con dơi khổng lồ xuống, và nói vài câu kiểu “Bọn trộm các người không thể thoát khỏi lưỡi búa công lý được đâu”. Nếu như ai đã từng xem series Batman 1960 thì sẽ rất hiểu cái cảm giác có được trong BTBaTB (series đó đã từng được vtv3 chiếu cách đây ít nhất là 13 – 14 năm).

Một cái khác giúp tăng cảm giác phấn khích cho fanboy khi xem phim chính là bên cạnh phong cách retro, khán giả vẫn thấy những điểm nhấn mang tính hiện đại của phim. Ngoài phong cách hoạt hình và hành động rõ ràng là hiện đại, một số nhân vật hiện đại khác cũng được khai tác đưa vào phim. Ví dụ như Blue Beetle 2, Guy Gardner (Green Lantern thứ 4 của trái đất), Night Wing, …v…v. Chính nhờ việc xây dựng Batman thành một hình mẫu lý tưởng của các anh hùng trong thế giới này từ đầu, nên việc đưa các nhân vật mang tính trẻ trung này vào không những không lệch tông mà còn rất ăn khớp và cho cảm giác khá thú vị – thế hệ siêu anh hùng trẻ học hỏi từ một biểu tượng được tôn vinh – nice touch.

Chốt lại, Batman The Brave and The Bold là một series hoạt hình xuất sắc của Warner Bros, không cần quá nghiêm túc như Justice League và các series trước đó mà vẫn thu hút và thuyết phục tuyệt vời các fanboy của nhân vật. Đặc biệt artwork của phim tuy mang ảnh hưởng nặng nề của phong cách Bruce Timm, nhưng vẫn cho thấy một cái gì đó khá riêng và ấn tượng, đặc biệt là việc đi nét rất mạnh, đôi chỗ còn ink (đổ màu đen tuyền) giả phong cách truyện tranh (hoạt hình thường không ink, mà chỉ đổ mảng màu). Ai mà từng yêu thích nhân vật Batman thì nên xem, một series có tính giải trí rất cao và thú vị.

Điểm: 9/10

Rockman and Green Lantern

One of 2 Megaman tribute works that I did 2 months ago but wasn’t chosen by Udon Crew, probably because of the lame idea.

Well, that’s ok since I wasn’t anything like a big fan of the game or the character (I didn’t get to play much games when I was a boy, especially games like Megaman).

However, I still like what I came out with this, probably because of my obsession with TRON: Legacy at that time. Hope whoever is a fan of Megaman wouldn’t throw rocks at me.

Green Lantern is coming, I don’t know why people are bashing it, I think it’s awesome. Ryan Reynolds is a great choice.

This is a small fan art base on the design of the movie, of course with some changes to fit my taste. Just to warm up my style after such a long time drawing children comic.

Emperor Hung Vuong

Emperor Hung Vuong the 18th – one of the first men to rule Vietnam in the ancient time. His beautiful daughter Mi Nuong was at the age of marriage and he wanted her to have an appropriate husband. That was when Son Tinh and Thuy Tinh – the 2 mighty Gods of the country at that time – came for a competition.

I’ve met a lot of difficulties in the process of this project, but I think I’ll overcome them and manage to finish the book. Hope to get as much supports as possible from you guys. Thank you very much.

Tangled – fan art

I’ve seen the movie 3 times in 3D and 1 in 2D, and I still wanna watch it again. This is an amazing come back from Disney, stunning in every way. It was too lovely and touching not to shed some tears seeing it. And of course, can’t help drawing a fan art about it too.

You can notice the lack of Maximus, that’d be my bad since there’s no more space for him, not that I don’t love him, I ADORE him, that’s the best horse from Disney ever. But may be next time, this time, give some love to Pascal.

The Great Son Tinh

This is the first illustration for a personal project I’m working on that tells the story about Son Tinh/Tan Vien Son Thanh (character concept can be found here [link]) and his great fight against his enemy Thuy Tinh. This is one of the best god legends in our Vietnamese culture. Son Tinh represents the human will against the weather’s rages, especially when the storm season comes every year.

Since I’m planning on doing a lot of illustration for this project and will try to self publish a book that includes the character concepts, I hope you’ll understand the watermark, and I will try to keep the book as much in the dark as possible before I finish it (this is the first and only illustration that I’ve done by now). It’ll be published only in Vietnam. (If I finds out a way and I’ll consider an international version if it gets some success in Vietnam)

Saint of the Tan Vien moutain

Tan Vien Son Thanh – Son Tinh (English: Saint of the Tan Vien Moutain) is one of the most famous mythical characters of Vietnam. It is said that he was in a competition with the God of Sea – Thuy Tinh, in order to marry the King’s daughter – Mi Nuong. The King – Hung Vuong – made up a test to choose only one of them to be his son-in-law: Whoever come back with a nine-tusked-elephant, a nine-spured-cock and a nine-red maned-horse first, would get the princess.

Being the king of moutains and forrest, Son Tinh easily managed to come back with all the required beasts, and got the girl as his wife. A bit late, Thuy Tinh got extremely angry and came after Son Tinh right away, trying to get the girl from his competitors’ hands. He raised the sea, made heavy rains upon Son Tinh’s land, hoping they would kill his enemy. But to defense himself and his just-married wife, Son Tinh used the moutains to stop the raging water and pushed Thuy Tinh back to his lair at The Sea of the East. But Thuy Tinh never quit. He comes back every year, makes storms and rains and floods, destroy many many villages, but he always lose to the power of Son Tinh. The people of Vietnam started worshiping Son Tinh as their protector from then on every year when the storm season comes.

I tend to make the concept for all the characters in this story, including Thuy Tinh, Hung Vuong the King and Princess Mi Nuong. Hoping to come back asap.

Ok ok, I know, what the hell is superboy doing there???? Well I was out of idea who I was gonna draw to make a trio after those 2, and dang, this boy just popped up in my head and there he is before I know it.

I was doing a lot of American comic fan art and not much for games and Japanese manga. This is my first attemp at changing the topic a lil bit. May be I’ll do more, but will be more careful in choosing the characters, and yes, next time, background will be there.

This one was done when I can’t help myself doing something about Goku since he’s one of the best manga characters of all time, and it seems to be a sin not to do anything at all about him. May be we can call this a lil bit of a tribute to the legend – Akira Toriyama. And of course, Ryu has a combo that has something in common with Kamehameha that I totally black out about the name.

AND, yeah, not finished with the super long description, this is my first attemp ever on something new for my coloring style, from being too simple to something more interesting. I hope you guys like this as much as I do when I finished it.

Is Marvel gonna publish this? No no no, this is just a fake cover that I made from my drawing. Well, everyone wishes their art going to Marvel comics covers, I’m just trying to make it true in some way, hope it doesn’t confuse you much.

The differences between this and a real cover are the font for the words in the red banner at the bottom of it, and there’s the link to my deviantart gallery as well :)

1. Tớ sẽ chỉ nhận vẽ mỗi người 1 số lượng tranh giới hạn thôi nhé. Vẫn đang là sinh viên nên tớ bận lắm, còn cả công việc vẽ truyện tranh nữa nên thời gian giành cho việc này không nhiều :).

2. Các bạn có thể xem vài tranh sau để tham khảo phong cách mà mình sẽ vẽ

Các bạn có thể lựa chọn tranh vẽ bằng máy tính hoặc bút chì như trong các ví dụ.

3. Mình sẽ vẽ fan art, các nhân vật của riêng bạn và biếm họa chân dung

Mình cần hình mẫu thật rõ ràng về nhân vật mà các bạn muốn vẽ để có thể vẽ được tốt nhất, vì mình không thể biết tất cả các nhân vật truyện tranh/hoạt hình trên đời được, đặc biệt là nhân vật của cá nhân bạn thì lại càng cần mẫu. Đừng tả lại bằng lời nhé, tốt nhất là có hình vẽ.

– Vẽ máy 50k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background: 100k- Vẽ chì màu 70k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background 120k- Đi nét/phác thảo 30k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background 70k

Đối với các nhân vật manga mình sẽ ko nhận vẽ nhân vật manga shoujo.

Nếu bạn muốn có nhiều hơn 1 nhân vật/tranh thì cứ mỗi nhân vật thêm vào là 10k nhé. Tối đa 4 nhân vật/tranh.

* Nhân vật của bạn:

Giá cho mục này tương tự giá của fan art, có điều mỗi nhân vật thêm vào là 15k.

* Đặc biệt: Biếm họa chân dung theo phong cách hoạt hình

Các bạn có thể xem mẫu tranh ở đây để biết phong cách mà mình sẽ vẽ. Tất nhiên sẽ có một số khác biệt trong cách thể hiện.

Bạn chỉ cần gửi cho mình một bức ảnh chân dùng người mà bạn muốn vẽ qua email của mình.

Mỗi tranh kiểu này là 20k/tranh, chỉ vẽ đen trắng thôi nhé.

5. Mình sẽ gửi file tranh có độ phân giải tối đa cho bạn qua email. Do việc sử dụng các dịch vụ bưu điện ở VN còn hạn chế nên đối với các tranh chì màu và tranh biếm họa chân dung mình sẽ chỉ tặng bản gốc cho những bạn nào là người quen của IP và có khả năng tới được trụ sở của IP để lấy tranh thôi nhé.

6. Cách thanh toán:

Bằng Paypal hoặc tài khoản ngân hàng của mình.

– Mình nhận yêu cầu – vẽ phác thảo – bạn check phác thảo – ok thì mình hoàn thiện và xuất thành file có độ phân giải thấp – bạn check lần cuối và gửi tiền cho mình qua Paypal hoặc TK ngân hàng (mình sẽ cung cấp cho bạn khi ta liên lạc qua email) – khi mình nhận được tiền sẽ gửi file có độ phân giải cao nhất cho bạn qua email (thường là 300dpi)
