The Wacky Avengers Animation Test

A short animation project I did in around a week all by myself, only for practicing purpose. I did these animation based on the designs from a fan art I did for the movie The Avengers that came out in Summer 2012. I didn’t do Black Widow because I became too exhausted and because I didn’t think of anything interesting enough for her.

The soundtrack is “Fight As One” by Bad City, which is the soundtrack from the animated series “The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”.

I used the animation feature in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe After Effects CS6.

All characters belong to Marvel Entertainment.

This animation is only for educational purpose, no commercial use.

To the new land

This is the 2 point perspective assignment that I did in the class Perspective I was having in Spring 2012 at the AAU, with the help of instructor Joko Budiono.

I posted a sketch version of this picture before, as it follows the journey of an unnamed monk who travels through a fantasy land inspired by the world of Samurai Jack and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

 

Little Red Riding Mushroom

This is a part of a regular series of illustrations that I do on facebook as a personal diary, and sometimes have some fun with my characters Splendid River and The Little Mushroom (my girlfriend).

This one is one of the most colorful ones that I did for my girlfriend with her as The Red Riding Hood walking and singing in the woods. I’m supposed to be the wolf waiting for her somewhere but I was too lazy, so I guess this is it.

Animation Final

This is the final project for the class ANM 260 Traditional Animation 2 that I took this Fall at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Instructor: Michael Vickner

The project is to produce a short animation where a character interact with a ball. In this one I used my original character Woot.

I animated this with the Animation feature in Adobe Photoshop CS 5.5 and Adobe After Effects. The music was “The Last Breathe” (Hơi thở cuối) by Nu Voltage.

Review: DC Animated Universe

(Hơi dài tí, mọi người chịu khó đọc) Batman: The Animated Series/ Superman: The Animated Series/ Batman Beyond/ Static Shock/ Justice League/ Justice League Unlimited (DC Animated Universe) – (1989 – 2007): 10/10
Đây chính là những TV Show hoạt hình đã thay đổi cuộc đời mình. Chính những show này là lý do khiến cho mình quyết tâm theo đuổi ước mơ trở thành họa sĩ, khiến cho mình đam mê phong cách

vẽ cartoon đơn giản, phóng khoáng, cách điệu, và cũng chính là lý do khiến mình nghiện ngập siêu nhân.Lần đầu tiên mình tiếp xúc với DCAU là khi mình xem Justice League lần đầu tiên trên Cartoon Network hồi mình còn học cấp 2. Lúc đấy mình mới chỉ biết lõm bõm về siêu nhân, Superman và thế giới truyện tranh Mỹ thông qua các phim Superman thời kỳ trước và Smallville. Nhưng với Justice League, lần đầu tiên mình biết đến việc trong thế giới của DC có cả 1 vũ trụ nơi có hàng trăm nhân vật khác nhau có liên kết với nhau và đều có những câu chuyện riêng của mình.

Hồi đấy internet còn là dial-up siêu chậm, thế nhưng mà mình vẫn hàng ngày tận dụng từng tí thời gian một để lên mạng tìm kiếm hình ảnh của Justice League và những phim liên quan, và đến khi mình tìm được thông tin về cái người đứng đằng sau tất cả thì thực sự cuộc đời mình thay đổi hoàn toàn – Bruce Timm.

Năm 1989, chính Bruce Timm là người đã làm ra Batman: The Animated Series – TV show hoạt hình đầu tiên dành riêng cho nhân vật Batman. Không chỉ thế, đây còn là TV Show hoạt hình đầu tiên có animation cực kỳ mượt mà, phong cách vẽ nghiêm túc, nội dung và hình ảnh đều cực kỳ đen tối, ám ảnh, phong cách phim đậm chất noir trinh thám Mỹ những năm 30 với bố cục ánh sáng, bóng tối cực kỳ chuẩn mực. Nhưng quan trọng nhất, chính Batman TAS là TV Show đầu tiên mang tới cho khán giả những cốt truyện nghiêm túc, sâu sắc, đen tối, đầy tính triết lý bên cạnh những màn hành động không kém gì phim live action ở thời bấy giờ. Các nhân vật trong Batman TAS đều được xây dựng cực kỳ kỹ lưỡng và sâu sắc, mỗi người đều có câu chuyện background riêng của mình đầy gai góc, nội tâm phức tạp, những mối quan hệ phức tạp, chồng chéo. Đặc biệt là các nhân vật phản diện đều được khắc họa cực kỳ đáng sợ, ghê rợn, kinh khủng, những băng đảng Mafia giết người như ngóe – một điều mang tính cách mạng trong hoạt hình dành cho truyền hình. Cộng thêm phong cách vẽ đặc trưng, đơn giản, khác lạ, nhưng cũng có phần nào đó “retro” do Bruce Timm đích thân thiết kế cho các nhân vật, 3 season đầu tiên của Batman TAS đã giành được không đếm xuể giải thưởng và những lời tán dương không bao giờ kết thúc từ các nhà chuyên môn cả về điện ảnh lẫn hoạt hình. Chính phong cách của Batman TAS là thứ đã gây ảnh hưởng rất mạnh mẽ đến phong cách của rất nhiều những hậu duệ sau này cả về phong cách vẽ, phong cách kể chuyện, phong cách hành động, và cả cái sự “người lớn” nhất định dành cho một bộ phim hoạt hình.

Woot: Wrath of the Bunnivor

It’s been a long time since I did something for my original characters. So here’s something for the characters I made up for a project that has never been scripted – The Woot. This is kind of a concept for a story where Bunnivor goes riot on the Time Forest, where Woot and Chitty have been protecting for quite a long time. This is also for the challenge from the AAU Comic Book Club, the topic is to do something other than Marvel and DC Comics characters.

Finally, I’m done with this one. Drawing for the AAU Comic book club’s challenge: Draw a Saturday Morning Cartoon in your own style. I chose Scooby-Doo not because I was a big fan of it, I liked it, but I wasn’t a fan, but because it’s one of the most iconic Saturday Morning Cartoons ever made by Hanna-Babera. The classic version was hilarious even though animation was not that good.

Sunday At The Park is a short-comic project I’ve been working on for the last 4 months. The writer Jesse Young (http://writejessewrite.wordpress.com/) wrote the script based on the poem “Casey At The Bat” by Ernest Thayer, and hired me for the job, when he thought my drawing style fits the story the best.

I decided to
use this script in my final assignment for the Perspective class by Joko Budiono that I took last semester at the AAU and it paid off well. But not until now I got the time to finish the colors and let the professional letterer Thomas Mauer (http://www.thomasmauer.com/) to blow his magic into it.

So here it is, the first short-comic that I’ve ever felt really satisfied with.

Sunday At The Park là 1 truyện tranh ngắn mình làm trong suốt 4 tháng qua. Tác giả kịch bản Jesse Young viết cái này dựa trên bài thơ “Casey At The Bat” bởi Ernest Thayer, và thuê mình vẽ, vì ông ý nghĩ là phong cách của mình phù hợp.
Mình quyết định sử dụng kịch bản này cho bài tập cuối kỳ môn Phối Cảnh của thầy Joko Budiono mà mình học kỳ trước ở trường AAU, và kết quả khá khả quan. Nhưng mà tận bây giờ mới có thời gian để tô màu và gửi cho người sắp chữ chuyên nghiệp Thomas Mauer làm việc của mình.
Đây, truyện ngắn đầu tiên mà mình cảm thấy thỏa mãn :P.

The Wacky Avengers

As promised, this is the Avengers fan art I just did, based on the movie. I wanted to go with a kind of wacky designs for the characters, and wanted to refresh my drawings style a little bit.
