Sunday At The Park is a short-comic project I’ve been working on for the last 4 months. The writer Jesse Young (http://writejessewrite.wordpress.com/) wrote the script based on the poem “Casey At The Bat” by Ernest Thayer, and hired me for the job, when he thought my drawing style fits the story the best.

I decided to
use this script in my final assignment for the Perspective class by Joko Budiono that I took last semester at the AAU and it paid off well. But not until now I got the time to finish the colors and let the professional letterer Thomas Mauer (http://www.thomasmauer.com/) to blow his magic into it.

So here it is, the first short-comic that I’ve ever felt really satisfied with.

Sunday At The Park là 1 truyện tranh ngắn mình làm trong suốt 4 tháng qua. Tác giả kịch bản Jesse Young viết cái này dựa trên bài thơ “Casey At The Bat” bởi Ernest Thayer, và thuê mình vẽ, vì ông ý nghĩ là phong cách của mình phù hợp.
Mình quyết định sử dụng kịch bản này cho bài tập cuối kỳ môn Phối Cảnh của thầy Joko Budiono mà mình học kỳ trước ở trường AAU, và kết quả khá khả quan. Nhưng mà tận bây giờ mới có thời gian để tô màu và gửi cho người sắp chữ chuyên nghiệp Thomas Mauer làm việc của mình.
Đây, truyện ngắn đầu tiên mà mình cảm thấy thỏa mãn :P.

The Fall

Continuing the long journey of The Traveler – the character that you met in my last deviation, this time, in a long fall to the great labyrinth of the fat monk statue (I just made that up).

Yes, I’m developing the character along with the world he’s living and traveling too, through these perspective assignment I’m doing at school (AAU, you know).

And yes, again, if you’re interested in sketches like these from me, wait till I put together an artbook contains tons of pencil sketches and black and white drawing I’ve been working on. It’ll be around June or July, no later than that.

Giant Freaking Viking

This one got a 3,75 – (A-).

I feel pretty good about this. But I’m gonna do even crazier thing with the next one – 2 point perspective.

Sneak Peak: 2011 Portfolio book full version

This is a peak look at my 2011 artbook/portfolio that I just got it printed to submit to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, USA.

The book is hard cover, contains 132 pages in A4 size with lots of fan art, original art, character designs, sketches and sequential art that I’ve done for the last 3 years of freelancing.

There are only 2 prints were done for the submiting purpose, but I’m going to print another shorter version of the same book for self publishing in Vietnam.

The short/cut version will be soft cover, contains 84 pages in A4 size. The near 50 pages left out are mostly text pages and some not-so-important art work. There will be 40 prints will be made for this version for publishing only in Vietnam. May be I’ll find some way to publish it in the USA later when I come there.

Preview Artbook/Portfolio 2011 của mình. Đây là bản full 132 trang, in offset trên giấy couche, đóng bìa bồi cứng để submit sang bên trường và chỉ có 2 bản in.

Còn bản để bán (và tặng) sẽ có 84 trang (giảm bớt hơn 30 trang text và 1 số trang sketch ko quan trọng), cũng in offset trên giấy couche khổ A4, đóng bìa mềm, và sẽ có gần 40 bản in. Chất lượng 2 bản sẽ tương đương nhau. Bản để bán 84 trang có lẽ phải đợi khoảng gần 2 tuần nữa và sẽ có giá 320.000 vnđ/cuốn.

Woot là tên một trong số những nhân vật chính của bộ truyện tranh mà tớ đang tham gia thực hiện với vai trò thiết kế nhân vật và họa sĩ chính. Tuy nhiên đây chỉ là một thiết kế không được duyệt nên tớ có thể tùy nghi sử dụng theo ý mình.

Site Patch Together này http://www.patchtogether.com/designs/woot-3165.html yêu cầu 1 số lượng vote minimum để quyết định có đưa một design nhân vật vào pre-order (đặt hàng trước) và sau đó đưa vào sản xuất thành figure toy (tượng, búp bê nhỏ) với số lượng phụ thuộc vào số lượng pre-order minimum mà khách hàng đặt mua trước đó.

I’ve done some edition to my commission rate, it’ll be easier to understand and will be less categories.

1. I’ll do limited pieces/person/time

Well ya know, I’m a student, especially an architecture student so I don’t have much time :). Hope you understand.

Got it? That means I’ll do only in the Cartoony style like those ones, both with colored pencil and digital like that. You can see more examples in my gallery.

3. I’ll do FAN ART, YOUR ORIGINAL CHARACTORS, AND CARTOONY CARICATURES

Just be sure to send me a good reference of the charactor cuz I don’t know all the comic/manga charactors in the world ya know :). Especially your OC, I need a clear reference so that I can do it best :).

4. Price:

* Fan art:

– Digital (no bg or simple bg): 10$, with background: 15$
– Colored Pencil (no bg or simple bg): 15$, with background: 20$
– Lineart/sketch (no bg or simple bg): 5$, with background: 7$

If you want more than 1 charactor/pic, it’s 5$ more for every extra charactor. Max 4 chars/pic. And no shoujo/yaoi/yuri/hentai manga characters please, thank you.

* Original Charactor:

Same price to fan art, but it’s 10$ more for every extra character. Max 4/pic.

I won’t ship the original pic.

6. Payment:

Via Paypal. I’ll receive your request, make a sketch, send it to you for checking if it’s ok with you. If it’s ok, I’ll finish the pic and send you a low-res preview. Then you pay me the price. After receiving the money, I’ll send you the high-res file of the pic via e-mail (300dpi).

So it’s like this:

– You check the sketch, I’ll finish it
– You check the preview of the finished pic and pay me the price, and I’ll send you the high-res piece via e-mail.

Bảng giá commission dành cho người Việt Nam:

Tớ chủ yếu vẽ comm cho Tây để kiếm tiền cho nhiều :D, nhưng giờ muốn phục vụ thêm cho cả các bạn bè ở Việt Nam nữa, cũng tăng thu nhập, làm cái bảng giá này để vừa túi tiền anh em Việt Nam hơn.

1. Tớ sẽ chỉ nhận vẽ mỗi người 1 số lượng tranh giới hạn thôi nhé. Vẫn đang là sinh viên nên tớ bận lắm, còn cả công việc vẽ truyện tranh nữa nên thời gian giành cho việc này không nhiều :).

2. Các bạn có thể xem vài tranh sau để tham khảo phong cách mà mình sẽ vẽ

Các bạn có thể lựa chọn tranh vẽ bằng máy tính hoặc bút chì như trong các ví dụ.

3. Mình sẽ vẽ fan art, các nhân vật của riêng bạn và biếm họa chân dung

Mình cần hình mẫu thật rõ ràng về nhân vật mà các bạn muốn vẽ để có thể vẽ được tốt nhất, vì mình không thể biết tất cả các nhân vật truyện tranh/hoạt hình trên đời được, đặc biệt là nhân vật của cá nhân bạn thì lại càng cần mẫu. Đừng tả lại bằng lời nhé, tốt nhất là có hình vẽ.

4. Giá cả:

* Fan art

– Vẽ máy 50k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background: 100k- Vẽ chì màu 70k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background 120k- Đi nét/phác thảo 30k (ko có background hoặc background đơn giản), có background 70k

Đối với các nhân vật manga mình sẽ ko nhận vẽ nhân vật manga shoujo.

Nếu bạn muốn có nhiều hơn 1 nhân vật/tranh thì cứ mỗi nhân vật thêm vào là 10k nhé. Tối đa 4 nhân vật/tranh.

* Nhân vật của bạn:

Giá cho mục này tương tự giá của fan art, có điều mỗi nhân vật thêm vào là 15k.

* Đặc biệt: Biếm họa chân dung theo phong cách hoạt hình

Các bạn có thể xem mẫu tranh ở đây để biết phong cách mà mình sẽ vẽ. Tất nhiên sẽ có một số khác biệt trong cách thể hiện.

Bạn chỉ cần gửi cho mình một bức ảnh chân dùng người mà bạn muốn vẽ qua email của mình.

Mỗi tranh kiểu này là 20k/tranh, chỉ vẽ đen trắng thôi nhé.

5. Mình sẽ gửi file tranh có độ phân giải tối đa cho bạn qua email. Do việc sử dụng các dịch vụ bưu điện ở VN còn hạn chế nên đối với các tranh chì màu và tranh biếm họa chân dung mình sẽ chỉ tặng bản gốc cho những bạn nào là người quen của IP và có khả năng tới được trụ sở của IP để lấy tranh thôi nhé.

6. Cách thanh toán:

Bằng Paypal hoặc tài khoản ngân hàng của mình.

– Mình nhận yêu cầu – vẽ phác thảo – bạn check phác thảo – ok thì mình hoàn thiện và xuất thành file có độ phân giải thấp – bạn check lần cuối và gửi tiền cho mình qua Paypal hoặc TK ngân hàng (mình sẽ cung cấp cho bạn khi ta liên lạc qua email) – khi mình nhận được tiền sẽ gửi file có độ phân giải cao nhất cho bạn qua email (thường là 300dpi)
